Kaye has a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin, and two M.A. degrees from the University of Colorado-Boulder. She taught in universities in the USA and Canada, and on board Semester-at-Sea. She served as editor of Trail and Timberline, the magazine of the Colorado Mountain Club. She worked as a news journalist for the Denver Post and Longmont Daily Times-Call. Currently, she devotes her time to writing, painting, and teaching workshops at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.
