Featuring award-winning alumna Danai Gurira

Award-winning playwright and actress Danai Gurira most recently wrapped production on Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and is presently starring in “Black Panther” as Okoye.  As a playwright, her works include In the Continuum (OBIE Award), Eclipsed (Tony Award Nomination: Best Play), and her newest play, Familiar, opens at Seattle Repertory Theatre in April.  She currently stars as Michonne on AMC’s The Walking Dead and she is co-founder of Almasi Arts, a Zimbabwean American Dramatic Arts Collaborative to give access and opportunity to the African Dramatic Artist.

 

Featuring award-winning alumna Sarah Ruhl

Award-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl’s plays, including Pulitzer Prize finalists The Clean House and In the Next Room, or the vibrator play (also a Tony nominee), have been produced on and Off-Broadway, around the country and internationally. Her book of essays 100 Essays I Don’t Have Time to Writewas a Time Notable Book of the Year. A recipient of a McArthur Fellowship, Sarah is currently writing the screenplay to adapt Gloria Steinem’s My Life on the Road to film, to be directed by Julie Taymor.

Featuring award-winning alumna Annette Gordon-Reed

Annette Gordon-Reed won the Pulitzer Prize in History for The Hemingses of Monticello: An America Family, a subject she had previously written about in Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings: An American Controversy. The recipient of numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a MacArthur Fellowship, and the National Book Award, Annette is a Professor at both Harvard Law School and Harvard University.

 

A Hedgebrook writer will be seated at each Equivox table to share her story.
