Gloria Steinem at Benaroya Hall

Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 7pm

Join Hedgebrook and Elliott Bay Book Company to celebrate the much-anticipated release of Gloria Steinem’s first book in 20 years, My Life On the Road, penned in part at our Whidbey Island retreat.

Gloria will be joined in conversation with Cheryl Strayed, also celebrating the new release of her book of notable quotes, Brave Enough.

Gloria Steinem—writer, activist, organizer for equality—tells a story she has never told before, a candid account of her life as a traveler, a listener, and a catalyst for change.

Cheryl, who also authored the bestselling memoir & film Wild, is the ideal person to engage Gloria in a conversation about life on the road.

Hedgebrook Alumna Hollis Wong-Wear will also be performing.

Gloria Steinem - My Life on the Road“When people ask me why I still have hope and energy after all these years, I always say: Because I travel. For more than four decades, I’ve spent at least half my time on the road…At first I was a journalist following stories, then a sometime worker in political campaigns and movements, and most consistently an itinerant feminist organizer. I became a person whose friends and hopes were as spread out as my life. It felt natural that the common element in that life was the road.”
