Hedgebrook Collaborations

The spring 2016 Hedgebrook Collaborations window is now closed! We look forward to collaborating with this cycle’s organizers. Check back in the fall for more opportunities to collaborate with Hedgebrook.

Hedgebrook Collaborations are alum-organized projects, supported by a small stipend from Hedgebrook, that utilize the elements of radical hospitality in pursuit of equal voice for women writers across all genres.

Our goal with this initiative is to help seed projects around the world that will exponentially expand the community of people who support women writers. We want to spread Hedgebrook’s model of radical hospitality to writers and readers who can’t experience Hedgebrook the same way you have. What happens at Hedgebrook doesn’t stay at Hedgebrook! As an alumna, you have the magic recipe of radical hospitality, and with your help we are launching Hedgebrook Collaborations to meet this need.

We have identified some elements of radical hospitality, as you’ve experienced at the retreat:

  • mindful preparation and intentional hosting
  • a balance of solitude and community
  • diversity and equity
  • mutual investment
  • trust
  • momentum

As with our writers-in-residence program, the Collaborations program is committed to diversity with a racial equity lens: at least half of Collaborations will be organized by and for women of color. We’d love projects that feature marginalized voices on timely topics. These seed projects will take root and grow, helping others practice radical hospitality and helping to sustain Hedgebrook into the future.

Stipends are between $50 and $500, and remember that Hedgebrook is just one place to look for funding! If our stipend doesn’t cover your costs, look for additional support from community partners, or consider an income-generating component.
