BIO: LISA MATISON GARRIGUES (she/her/hers) is an award-winning writer, teacher, and motivational speaker. She is the author of Writing Motherhood (Scribner), an inspirational and instructional guide for mothers who want to record their stories. A believer in the power of words to transport and transform, Lisa has devoted her professional life to fostering communities of women writers. Since 2000, she has taught classes in “Writing Motherhood” and “Writing Womanhood” to writers, parents, and educators nationwide. Currently, she teaches at Cabrillo College in northern California. Lisa is a fellow of Hedgebrook, Blue Mountain Center, and the MacDowell Colony. She holds an undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of California at Berkeley and a master’s in education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Lisa is completing her certification to teach Qi Gong as she continues to seek ways to bring mindfulness to writing.
