Bio: MK Chavez is an Afro-Latinx writer, editor, and educator from Oakland, California occupied territory of the Ohlone people.   She is the author of Mothermorphosis, Dear Animal, (Nomadic Press), and several chapbooks including, A Brief History of the Selfie (Alley Cat Books.) Chavez curates the reading series Lyrics & Dirges and is co-director of the Berkeley Poetry Festival. She is also a guest event curator at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. She has been a visiting lecturer at Stanford University, San Francisco State University, University of San Francisco, San Jose State University, and Mills College.   She is a recipient of the Alameda County Arts Leadership Award, the PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Award, and the San Francisco Foundation Nomadic Press Literary Award and received fellowships from Hedgebrook, Caldera, CantoMundo, Sitka Center for Ecology and Art, Playa, and VONA.   Chavez teaches writing workshops and does book coaching through Ouroboros Writing Lab.
