Terah Lyons

Terah Lyons has spent her career working across sectors to align decisions made about technology development by governments and private sector actors with the long-term health of society. She was the Founding Executive Director of the global nonprofit The Partnership on AI, a multi-stakeholder organization focused on responsible AI development and deployment founded by a coalition of large technology companies, civil society organizations, and academic institutions. In the Obama Administration, she served as Policy Advisor to the U.S. Chief Technology Officer in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), where she led policy on AI and emerging technologies, including the formation of the first Federal domestic policy strategy on AI. Terah is a Fellow at Stanford's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, and has served as an Executive Fellow with the Tech Talent Project, a Mozilla Foundation Technology Policy Fellow, and a Fellow with the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Terah continues to advise companies, governments and tribal nations, universities, and nonprofit organizations on issues related to emerging technology, policy, and geopolitics. She believes deeply in the power of narrative in shaping and inspiring a better world, and is especially interested in communicating science and technology in the service of wonder, art, and public education. She is a graduate of Harvard University.
